Samuel Clayton DePriest

Woodward, Okla. — Samuel Clayton DePriest, 73 year old Shattuck resident passed form this life at his home on December 12, 2013.  He was born on May 21, 1940 to Katria Louise (Curry) Pack and Oliver Raymond DePriest in Picher, Oklahoma.

          Most of his young life was spent at Newcastle, Texas.  After high school he joined the Army receiving an honorable discharge in July of 1963.  He did inactive duties for the next three years.  Coming to Shattuck to work in the oil field in 1963 brought him to make many new friends.  In January of 1964 he met a girl named Marilyn Kelln, whom he grew to love.  On July 9, 1964 he and Marilyn were married in Woodward, Oklahoma.  He soon became part of the family and began to farm and ranch.  In 1965 the family began with a son, Gary Don and in 1968 another son J.R. Clayton.  Clayton always enjoyed fishing, hunting and entertaining friends.  He always said, “I’m a jack of all trades and a master of none!”  “Little Johnnie” jokes were always entertaining, as he never forgot any of them.  His passion was old cars, but he never found time for the restoration plans.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

          Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Katria and Oliver, one sister Louise, one brother Danny, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fritz and Hulda Kelln, and a brother-in-law Donald Kelln.

          Surviving him are his wife Marilyn, his son Gary and wife Shellie, son J.R. and wife Patti, Grandson’s, Gray and Kelln DePriest, two brothers, Autry DePriest and Everett Hobbs and wife Martha, and one sister Katria Wilmont of Graham, Texas and a host of friends.

 Memorial may be made to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, P.0. Box 795, Shattuck, Oklahoma 73858.

          

Funeral Services were held Monday, December 16, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma with Pastor Junior Zollinger officiating. Music for the service was Pianist, Biddy Sipe playing ‘I’ll Fly Away and ‘In the Garden”; soloist was Mary Yandell singing,  Casket Bearers were Jim Taylor, Ron Hargrove, Doug Haffner, Brad Bunch, Grayson Kelln, Stan Appel, Gentry Kelln and Randy Deal. Honorary Casket Bearers were Gary DePriest, J.R. DePriest, Gray DePriest and Kelln DePriest.  Interment was in the Shattuck Memorial Cemetery, Shattuck, Oklahoma with the Fort Sill Honor Guard Team concluding the service.  The family entrusted the Mason Funeral Home with their services.

    Zabrion Xavier Brown, 7 year old former Woodward area resident, died Sunday, July 27, 2014 in Woodward. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel.

    Jerome Roscoe Dimmitt was born on May 14, 1958 to Loren & Merle (Foster) Dimmit at Sublette, Kansas the youngest of nine siblings.  The family made their home in Sublette, Kansas. Jerome graduated from Sublette High School with the class of 1976. After graduation he went to work for a custom cutter following the harvest and later in Garden City doing cement pouring and finishing. The bulk of his working years was spent in the oil field business working in at least three different states.

    Dudley Blaylock was born January 29, 1945 in Higgins, Texas to Edith May and Dudley Jasper Blaylock.  He passed away July 16, 2014 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 17 days.

  • Edith Ann Nichols

    Edith Ann Nichols, a former resident of Woodward, was born May 17, 1934 in Rives, TN. She died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at her home in Dyersburg, TN.

    She was a faithful Christian with ultimate faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, J.T. and Lorena Tubbs of Memphis, TN and a sister, Patsy Nell Tubbs.

  • Norman Vanderslice Norman Vanderslice

    The world lost a special person on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Norman Vanderslice was born on December 29, 1971 in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Ronnie and Norma (Semmel) Vanderslice.  He grew up on the family farm in Fargo, Oklahoma and graduated from Fargo High School in 1990.  Norman was a farmer who loved being outside. He took care of running the family farm his entire life. Norm loved coyote hunting with his friends and was known for always helping others. The greatest love of his life was his son, Colton, who he proudly raised. They lived on a farm west of Woodward.

    Clarence “Melvin” Wilson, 95 year old, True Woodward Cowboy, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Bible Baptist Church with the Reverend Jesse Johnson and Jerry Nine officiating. Burial will follow at the Shirley Cemetery in Leedey under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
