Samuel Clayton DePriest

Woodward, Okla. — Samuel Clayton DePriest, 73 year old Shattuck resident passed form this life at his home on December 12, 2013.  He was born on May 21, 1940 to Katria Louise (Curry) Pack and Oliver Raymond DePriest in Picher, Oklahoma.

Most of his young life was spent at Newcastle, Texas.  After high school he joined the Army receiving an honorable discharge in July of 1963.  He did inactive duties for the next three years.  Coming to Shattuck to work in the oil field in 1963 brought him to make many new friends.  In January of 1964 he met a girl named Marilyn Kelln, whom he grew to love.  On July 9, 1964 he and Marilyn were married in Woodward, Oklahoma.  He soon became part of the family and began to farm and ranch.  In 1965 the family began with a son, Gary Don and in 1968 another son J.R. Clayton.  Clayton always enjoyed fishing, hunting and entertaining friends.  He always said, “I’m a jack of all trades and a master of none!”  “Little Johnnie” jokes were always entertaining, as he never forgot any of them.  His passion was old cars, but he never found time for the restoration plans.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Katria and Oliver, one sister Louise, one brother Danny, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fritz and Hulda Kelln, and a brother-in-law Donald Kelln.
