TSA students to compete

Woodward, Okla. — Woodward's Technology Students Association (TSA) chapter will take part in a mini-conference Dec. 8 at the Pioneer Technology Center in Ponca City.

TSA Advisor, Technology Engineering and Gateway to Technology Instructor Darrell Jones said high- and middle-school competitors will display their skills in a variety of events. They will receive trophies in the top 3 places and advance to the state conference in March 2013.

"We have these mini-conferences to show off the students' abilities, and to prepare them for competition at the state and national level," Jones said. "The national conference is in Orlando, Fla., in June."

Woodward typically advances several students to the national competition.

Jones said high school students will be competing in biotechnology  design projects, a career comparison, debates of technological issues, desktop publishing, digital video and music production, extemporaneous speech, fashion design, photographic technology, flight endurance, structural engineering, problem solving and video game design among other areas.

The middle schoolers will address agriculture/biotechnology matters, complex technology issues, communications challenges, electrical applications, conduct an environmental focus, address medical technology issues, stage a multimedia production, design a transportation system and solve a technology problem. Middle school also involves digital photography, structural engineering and video game design.

Jones said several of the competitions are team programs, while others are to demonstrate individual talents.
