Woodward, Okla. —
It's time to deck the halls, and your home for the Woodward Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas lighting contest.
Chamber President C.J. Montgomery said the contest goes back "a long time."
Sponsored by the Chamber's "Woodward Pride" committee, the contest's purpose is to raise consciousness of the city and the beautification efforts put forth during the Christmas season, said Woodward Pride member Charolett Waggoner.
"The contest makes Woodward even more attractive, during the holiday season," Montgomery agreed, adding that it complements the Chamber's other holiday light festival, Crystal Christmas.
The competition is free to enter, just set up your lighted outdoor holiday decorations by Sunday.
Members of the Woodward Pride committee will then tour the city to select finalists from within 5 sections of the city:
- Northeast of 22nd and Oklahoma.
- Northwest of 22nd and Oklahoma.
- Southwest of 22nd and Oklahoma.
- Southeast of 8th and Oklahoma.
- South of Oklahoma between 8th and 22nd Streets.
Montgomery explained that several finalists will be chosen from each section. Then, later in December, a judging team will select the overall winners.
The first, second and third place overall winners will receive Chamber Checks, which are redeemable at any participating Chamber business member's location.
Waggoner said the Woodward Pride members encourage residents to participate and show off their community and holiday spirit.
