Woodward, Okla. —
The Woodward Chamber of Commerce is now seeking nominations for its annual Citizen of the Year contest.
"Nomination forms are available at the Chamber office and anyone or any Chamber member can nominate anyone they choose," Chamber President CJ Montgomery said.
The nomination forms ask for information about and examples of the nominee's volunteer service, character, civic leadership and personal accomplishments in the areas of business, family, church and school, Montgomery said.
In particular, he said a lot of weight is given to volunteer activity.
"It's about those who give back; those not only receiving the gifts of Woodward, but who are giving back to help make this a great community for others as well," he said.
Ultimately, Montgomery said the annual award is about "recognizing exceptional individuals for what they do for the city of Woodward."
Completed nomination forms must be returned to the Chamber office at 10th St. and Oklahoma Ave. "no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27," he said.
A secret committee will then evaluate the various nominees to select the winner, who will be announced during the Chamber's annual banquet which is set for Jan. 16 at the Woodward Conference Center.
"I know it's always a difficult decision to select a winner because there are any number of qualified individuals in our community who could deserve this award," Montgomery said. "That's what makes Woodward so special, because we have so many great citizens."
He said the Chamber really enjoys recognizing its "outstanding" citizens with the Citizen of the Year award, because "that's what the Chamber does, we're about city promotion and city betterment."
