Legislative reception coming up

Woodward, Okla. — The Northwest Oklahoma Alliance will be holding its 7th annual legislative reception on Wednesday, March 27.

The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City.

NwOA Treasurer Alex Mantz said that in addition to several state legislators, an array of state department heads and community leaders will also be at the reception.

The reception will open with Speaker Pro Tem Mike Jackson (Dis. 40-R) speaking and acknowledging the various legislators and department heads.

Following that, Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb will give an address as the evening's keynote speaker.

Mantz said Gov. Mary Fallin has also been invited to the reception, but the group has not yet received a confirmation on whether she will be able to attend.

But NwOA's legislative reception isn't just an opportunity to hear from state leaders, Mantz said, but an opportunity to interact with those leaders.

"It will be a great chance to speak face-to-face, one-on-one with various legislators and officials from around the state," she said.

Mantz said the legislative reception is also a great way to promote the alliance's goals.

NwOA is a volunteer board of people from different communities around Northwest Oklahoma with the common goal of promoting economic growth and community development within the region.

"We're here to promote Northwest Oklahoma to our legislature and let them know about the amazing stuff we have going on in our cities and communities," Mantz said.

The legislative reception is open to the public and Mantz said she would encourage citizens from throughout Northwest Oklahoma to attend.

"We've been at the history center several years and it's been a great venue," she said, noting "Our attendance grows every year."

This year, she said she is expecting a crowd of around 300 people to attend.
