Woodward, Okla. — A Gate man was hospitalized after a one-vehicle accident in Harper County on Thursday morning.

Dale Ray Heglin, 58, was initially taken to Newman Memorial Hospital in Shattuck and then transfered to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.  Heglin received head, leg, arm and internal injuries but was listed in stable condition, OHP said.

Heglin was driving a 1996 Ford F250 pickup pulling a trailer eastbound on a county road approximately 2 miles west of Laverne around 9:07 a.m. Thursday when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel, OHP said.  The vehicle ran off the roadway to the left and struck a tree.  The trailer then detached as the vehicle continued on before hitting a concrete wall of a bridge.

Heglin was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, OHP said.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Justin Hanson of the Beaver Detachment with assistance from Trooper Derrick Stewart.
