Woodward, Okla. —
Is your closet burdened with extra prom dresses you never have an occasion to wear?
Others may be able to use the dresses and you can donate them to the Western Plains Youth and Family Services during their 2nd annual Primp for Prom event.
"We realized quite a few people had old dresses in their closet and really didn't know what to do with them, so we thought we'd put them to use by getting people to donate them, and it was really a big success," said Sarah McDowell with the youth shelter.
McDowell said over 200 dresses were donated last year.
After all the donations have been collected, they will be taken to High Plains Technology Center where on April 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., girls will be able to select their dresses, McDowell said.
McDowell said there are no requirements and that anyone who wants a dress will receive one free of charge.
In addition to dresses, Western Plains is also accepting shoes, jewelry, and anything else to help the girls accessorize on their special night.
"By donating, people know they're going to someone who needs them," McDowell said.
Donations will be accepted until April 1. Dresses can be dropped off at the Western Plains Youth and Family Services office on Hanks Trail. Dress pickups can also be arranged by contacting McDowell at 256-8931.
