Woodward, Okla. —
A bevy of local talent will be featured at the Woodward Artisans League's Holiday Express event as individuals from around the Woodward area put their crafts on display and for sale.
The show is set from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Woodward County Fairgrounds.
Sherry Liston, secretary of the Woodward Artisans League, said "The Artisans League has been around since the mid 70s. It was originally founded to promote the arts in youth throughout Northwest Oklahoma.
"All the money we make goes towards art departments of local schools, we give to the Woodward High School, Woodward Middle School, Mooreland's art department, as well as the Christian Academy's art department.”
The Holiday Express is the group's annual winter crafts show and in addition to raising money to support the local arts, also works to showcase the talent of local artists.
"All items featured in a booth are hand crafted by the exhibitor," Liston said. "All the crafts on display are local, and we'll have painted items, sewn items, knitted items, ceramics, woodworking items, even jewelry. The Holiday Express is a great place to go Christmas shopping for some one of a kind items."
Liston herself will be representing the Fiber Fanatics.
"We're a fiber guild and we'll be spinning wool into yarn as well as showing items we've crafted from that wool," she said.
A number of other interesting items will also be displayed.
"We always try to have a nice big assortment of crafts at the event. We do have items geared towards Christmas, but we also have many things people could use year round, and we have some of the best baked goods. We will have cakes, pies, bags of cookies, you can buy some cookies and eat them while you browse the crafts," Liston said.
"There are so many things to see," she added. "We really hope everyone will make an effort to come out and shop local. Its a fun day, people can come out, see some unique items made by local talent, shop for Christmas, and try our delicious baked goods."
Booths are still available, so any locals looking to showcase their talent are encouraged to contact the Artisans League at 256-6380.
