Walleye Rodeo is under way

Woodward, Okla. — CANTON -  The Walleye Rodeo is under way in Canton with a number of events taking place.

One highlight is Saturday's first Walleye Music Fest featuring a number of well-known performers.

Scheduled to play are Brandon Jenkins, Chad Sullins and the Last Call Coalition, Jake Bowers, Josh Lamle and Dylan Stewart and the Johnny Strangers among others.

Gates open at 3 p.m. and the bands start at 4 p.m. at the Canton Rodeo Arena.

Also planned on Saturday is the Catch Me if You Can 5K and 1-mile fun run starting at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Canton.

On Friday and Saturday, art work from the Canton High School students will be on display at the Old Pioneer Telephone Office on Main Street.

A parade is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday as well.

A Poker Run on Saturday will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.

For the youngsters, a sand castle building and sand sculpting contest is set for Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Sandy Cove.

Sand castle building age groups are 3-5, 6-8 and 9-11. Sculpting age groups are 12-15 and 16-18. Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each age group.

The fishing tournament, called Oklahoma's largest and oldest, continues all weekend. There are daily prizes, plus prizes awarded for the 5 largest walleye, total poundage of walleye for the weekend and the largest fish caught in 10 different species.
