Busy time for local schools

Woodward, Okla. — End of the school year activities continue at a quick pace in Woodward.

Awards assemblies take center-stage the next couple of days at Woodward High School.

Today, the school will hold its underclassmen awards presentations with community and class awards. It starts at 1:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

On Thursday evening, it will be the seniors time to receive awards and recognition.

The senior awards reception starts at 6 p.m. in the high school commons and will include a number of scholarship awards and special recognitions as well as the class awards.

Also on Thursday, a special event is planned at Horace Mann with the retirement party for veteran teachers Cheryl Lucas and Cindy Brown. That starts at 3:45 p.m.

Friday's schedule is an especially busy one with the senior breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the high school.

In the afternoon, junior and senior powder puff football teams will be in action at Boomer Stadium. Kickoff is 4 p.m.

Then on Friday night, the always-popular Mr. Irresistible contest is set in the high school auditorium.

But the big day for the Senior Class of 2013 is Sunday afternoon.

Graduation ceremonies are set to start at 3 p.m. in Boomer Fieldhouse as the Boomer seniors will become WHS alumni in a matter of a couple of hours.

Next Monday, the seniors will have one more event, a pizza party at Crystal Beach Park.

There are some other school events coming up next week as well.

On Monday, the Woodward 7th and 8th grade awards assembly is scheduled at Woodward High School.

The festivities are set for 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This is the first time in a while the awards assembly for the 7th and 8th graders has been held in the evening.

On Tuesday, Horace Mann will be the site of principal Debbie Harrington's retirement party at 3:45 p.m.

Also next week, the elementary schools will be holding various programs and awards assemblies.
