Hiring was the main focus of the High Plains Technology Center board meeting on Monday, Feb. 4.
During the brief meeting, HPTC board members voted to add a new person to the school's substitute roster and to hire a new part time receptionist.
The reemployment of the school's assistant superintendents and directors was also approved.
HPTC Superintendent Dwight Hughes said, "I highly recommend all of these individuals."
Those individuals who were rehired on Hughes' recommendation included Taylor Burnett, director of business; Tony Haskins, director of operations; Barclay Holt, director of full time programs; Vickie Hunter, financial director; Sandi Liles, marketing and public relations director; Sue Mitchell, director of Adult Training & Development and Practical Nursing; and Amber Riley, counselor.
In his superintendent's report, Hughes discussed ongoing maintenance at the school, including the patching of curbs and fixing of a few drains around the facility.
The HPTC Technology Plan for 2013-2015 was also approved.
"Our Director of Operations Tony Haskins made projections on our future technology needs. Haskins approves and updates this plan every year," Hughes said.
Sandi Liles, public relations director, told The News on Tuesday that the largest part of the plan calls for the gradual replacement of the schools' 300 computers. The plan calls for 50 computers to be replaced annually with new technology, to keep a constant flow of new technology coming into the school, she said.
Following Monday's brief board meeting, the HPTC board members took a tour of the facilities classes in recognition of Career Tech month.
During the tour, the board members reviewed the wide range of training opportunities offered at HPTC, including marketing, construction, LPN training, welding, service careers, automotives, computer repair, and diesel mechanics.
Board members visited classrooms and spoke with the instructors of each class. They also reviewed projects that students were currently working on and the training equipment used in the different programs.
