Woodward, Okla. —
Woodward's Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual banquet Jan 21 for the first time at the Woodward Conference Center.
"We're extremely excited to host the event at Woodward Conference Center. It provides tremendous opportunity for us to hold it there," said Chamber of Commerce President C. J. Montgomery
The keynote speaker for the evening will be the Executive Director of the Oklahoma History Center, Dr Bob Blackburn.
“Part of Blackburn's message will center around his award winning Dust Bowl documentary that was recently produced for PBS. He'll talk about how that was produced and possibly show a brief portion of the film," Montgomery said.
Montgomery said Blackburn was chosen because of the attention the documentary had garnered as well as his ability to provide an insightful look into Oklahoma's history.
"This will also be the night we name the 2012 Woodward Citizen of the Year," Montgomery said. "Steve Jones is our current Citizen of the Year. We'll also recognize student citizens of year, a young man and lady, Cole Reynolds and Amanda Covalt."
Montgomery said the Chamber will also formally recognize High Plains Technology Center's Superintendent Dwight Hughes as their new chairman. The Woodward campus NWOSU Dean, Dr. Deena Fisher, will become the immediate past chairman.
"It's a great night to get together and celebrate past accomplishments and look forward to the upcoming year," said Montgomery said. "It's a great night to get together and meet with old friends and share old stories and look forward to the possibilities of 2013 and to becoming an even more active chamber."
Tickets for the event are available at the Woodward Chamber of Commerce and include a steak dinner from Big Dans. Those interested can contact the Chamber at 256-7411. You do not have to be a chamber member to attend. The banquet starts at 7 p.m.
