Woodward, Okla. —
The Northwest Oklahoma Friends of the National Rifle Association will hold their 19th annual banquet this Saturday starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Woodward Conference Center.
The event is a fundraiser for youth hunting and shooting programs offered through FFA, 4-H and Boy Scouts.
The banquet, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature a steak dinner, is open to the public. Around 300 to 400 persons attend each year, according to organization officials.
ALL ARE WELCOME
"This is a family event," said local NRA Treasurer Travis Mann. "No alcohol will be served and there's a reduced admission price for kids 12 and under."
Mann said ticket sales are set to end at 5 p.m. Thursday. Tickets may be purchased by contacting Mann's Rental at (580) 256-6077; Butch’s Guns, (580) 254-9764; and Chiropractic Health Center, (580) 256-5314.
Children under 12 who attend will get a prize that they can use for outdoor fun, such as a set of binoculars or a backpack, Mann said.
A BB shooting contest is also planned for the young attendees, he said.
In addition there will be a raffle for selected guns and hunting items and "also, a live auction will be held involving many different guns to bid on," Mann said.
He said McKay Ford has donated a shotgun to be awarded, while Irwin Motors will supply youth BB guns for prizes.
LOCAL BANQUET TOPS STATE NRA GROUPS
"We made about $116,000 last year for the program," Mann said. "That put us as the No.1 fundraiser for NRA Chapters in Oklahoma and 4th in the nation."
When those proceeds were combined with those from other NRA Chapters in the state, around $480,000 was distributed to youth programs across Oklahoma.
