Tornado drill using social media planned

Woodward, Okla. — The National Weather Service in Norman is planning a statewide tornado drill on social media today.

"It will be sometime this afternoon," Woodward Emergency Manager Matt Lehenbauer said. "We will be monitoring for that message and forward it out on Facebook and Twitter."

Lehenbauer said when you see the message come up on our Facebook or Twitter acout today the recommended action is to share it or retweet it.

"It helps us get the message out to people who may not have seen our other messages."

Social media is one of several ways severe weather warnings can and will be released as soon as a warning is issued.

"We support both Facebook and Twitter and put a lot resources in it," Lehenbauer said.

This is also Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Oklahoma and the ReadyWoodward Matt Facebook page will offer up several facts and preparedness information throughout the week.
