Woodward, Okla. — Woodward's 2013 Teacher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday during a reception at the NWOSU Woodward campus.

The Teacher of the Year reception, which will begin at 4:30 p.m., is hosted by the Woodward News and the Woodward Chamber of Commerce.

The reception was originally scheduled for Feb. 27, but had to be postponed due to the blizzard.

"The Teacher of the Year is important to the Chamber as well as the education community," Woodward Chamber of Commerce President C. J. Montgomery said.  "The Chamber is always happy to team with the Woodward News in recognition of an outstanding teacher among Woodward's already impeccable teaching staff."

Finalists for this year's award include high school chemistry and environmental science teacher Chanda Peters, high school English and college prep/ACT teacher Michelle McDonald, 8th grade history teacher and Boomer Dance Team coach Chelsea Roberts, 8th grade algebra and pre-algebra teacher Abbie Wasson, pre-kindergarten teacher Monica Hodgden, and 2nd grade teacher Emilee Neagle at Horace Mann Elementary.

The winner will receive a gift package consisting of items donated from local businesses and will go on to represent Woodward in the statewide contest for the Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.
