Benefit dinner, auction Friday for Talon Waibel

Woodward, Okla. — A spaghetti dinner and auction to benefit Talon Waibel is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Woodward.

In May, Talon, then 9 months old, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Hurler's Syndrome.

Talon's best defense for the disease, according to doctors, is a bone marrow transplant and family members said a donor has been found.

On Aug. 11, Talon will travel to the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital to undergo 4 months of chemotherapy and then to receive his bone marrow transplant, said Patti Waibel, Talon's grandmother.

Waibel said money raised through the benefit dinner and auction will help Talon's family with medical costs.

"We have got some really great items for the silent auction, like a gas grill, Mary Kay gift basket, Sentsy gift basket, and gift certificates to different restaurants around town," Waibel said. "Other donations include a Phillips 55 inch LCD television, a Playstation 3, 3 loads of asphalt and 3 loads of gypsum rock."

Waibel said area businesses have sponsored tables at the dinner in order to help out.

Waibel said they are also looking to team up with area restaurants like K-Bobs and Pizza Hut, where a percentage of the sales on a certain night will go toward Talon's expenses.

"Other auction items that we have include a family pack to Celebration Station in Oklahoma City and desserts from the Cake Lady and Sweet Surprises," Waibel said.

If you would like to donate to the auction or dinner please contact Patti Waibel at 580-216-0502.
