Woodward, Okla. — The United Fund of Woodward will be holding a fundraiser dinner on Oct. 25 at Kids Inc.

"The United Fund has been around since 1957," explained Suzie Wheelock, executive secretary for the organization. "It's a lot like United Way, only its all local."

The United Fund sponsors 10 local nonprofit organizations: Red Cross, Salvation Army, Kids Inc, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Northwest Oklahoma Literacy Council, Senior Center, Panhandle Nutrition, High Plains Outreach Center, and Legal Aid, and

"All the money we raise goes towards funding those," Wheelock said.

The Oct. 25 dinner will feature your choice of homemade chicken and noodles or baked potatoes with chili and fixings, as well as homemade desserts brought by the agencies that the United Fund sponsors.

"There will be a little bit of everything," Wheelock said.

The event will also feature a silent auction in which patrons will have an opportunity to bid on items donated by local area businesses, she said.

"We have some really outstanding items, including 2 sets of Thunder tickets as well as tickets to OSU football games. We have a lot of really good silent auction items," she said.

The event will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at the door.  Tickets are also available in advance from any United Fund board member or at any of the sponsored agencies.
