Woodward, Okla. — One man was killed and another seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident in Beaver County Tuesday afternoon.

Jose Angel Martinez, 21, of Woodward, died at the scene of the wreck five and a  half miles east of Elmwood on U. S. Highway 270, said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Martinez was a passenger in a pickup driven by Dale Leo Miller II, 28, of Woodward.

Miller was taken by ambulance to the Beaver Airport then by medi-flight to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., where he is listed in poor condition with head, arm, leg and trunk internal and external injuries, the OHP said.

According to the report, Miller was going west on Highway 270 when the vehicle left the roadway to the right, striking a bridge guardrail, then went off into a deep ravine, rolling one time and coming to rest on its top.

Miller was pinned for 58 minutes before being freed by rescue workers, the OHP said.

The OHP said seatbelts were not in use and the cause of the accident remains under investigation. The roadway was wet at the time of the accident, which happened around 2:45 p.m.

Trooper Justin Hanson investigated the accident with assistance from other troopers. The Beaver County Fire Department and Rescue, Elmwood Fire Department, Beaver County EMS and the Beaver County Sheriff's Office also responded to the accident.
