County approves financing for projects

Woodward, Okla. — Woodward County Commissioners on Monday approved two six figure loans for heavy equipment issued by Welch State Bank.

The loans, one for a shredder for use in the landfill and the other for a trackhoe, also for use in the landfill, were for $763,152.60 and $205,820.80 respectively.

Commissioners also approved a resolution determining the maximum monthly highway expenditures for October to be $93,810.00 per district, said District 3 Commissioner Vernie Matt.

In other business, Matt noted in an informal report on work ongoing at the Woodward County Fairgrounds, that the  disposal of the asbestos in the old OSU Extension Building was reportedly complete and demolition on the rest of the building may resume this week.

At 11 a.m., in their second session of the day, commissioners voted to reject a bid, which came in to purchase four lots of used bridge strikers (the long beams that support a bridge going across) belonging to Woodward County District 2.

District 2 Commissioner Randy Johnson said the bid was too low for four lots of strikers, each with numerous strikers of different sizes per lot

The bid, which came from a Vici man, was $300 for Lot 1, $225 for Lot 2, $200 for Lot 3 and $175 for Lot 4, said Commissioner Tommy Roedell, who opened the bid.

Johnson requested the other commissioners reject the bid because he believes he can take the strikers to Elk City and get more money offered for them through the Statewide County Sale held in the spring.

If sold, the money will go into the highway fund for Woodward County District 2.

"I may, since only one guy bid, take phone bids on them, I will try that and if I can't get them sold that way I will take them on to the statewide sale," Johnson said.
