Woodward, Okla. —
Reese Roach, an 18-month old girl from Woodward, has been diagnosed with optic pathway glioma and is currently undergoing chemotherapy to fight the disease.
To help the family with expenses for the treatments, the Alpha Gamma Club of Woodward is holding a “Chili Supper and Benefit Auction for Reese Roach.”
"Reese Roach is the daughter of Rick and Laura Roach of Woodward," said Shelly Patten, president of Alpha Gamme. "Reese has been going to weekly chemotherapy treatments in Oklahoma City since February. They're estimating another year of treatments to try to contain it."
The Alpha Gamma fundraiser is dedicated to helping the family any way they can.
"Weekly trips to Oklahoma City can be really expensive," Patten said "Between the travel expenses, the food expenses, the chemotherapy sessions. We're just trying to help them out any way we can - 100 percent of what we raise that night will go towards the Roach family."
The fundraiser includes a donation chili supper as well as a silent auction featuring items donated by businesses and individuals around the community.
Some of the auction items include a one-year golf membership at Crystal Beach, an autographed picture of Kevin Durant, autographed OSU and OU memorabilia, OSU vs Texas Tech tickets, suite level tickets to OKC Thunder games, a 42" flat screen television, and much more.
"We're really counting on as many people as possible to show up and bid on items to help support the family," Patten said.
Alpha Gamma has also held other fundraisers in the past to help families.
"Alpha Gamma is a group of about 30 women who meet monthly with the cause of promoting literacy, civic, and social improvement," Patten said. "What we do is try to support children and children's benefits around the Woodward area.
"We're so grateful to the community, truly. Every year we've asked for donations the community has poured out so much compassion and help with donating items, and that's what makes our auctions work. We couldn't do it without them, and we couldn't asked for a better community. They truly go above and beyond every year."
The Chili Supper and Silent Benefit Auction will be held on Nov 13 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
