Woodward, Okla. —
The American Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive on Feb. 21 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church on 1402 Texas Ave.
According to a Red Cross newsletter, the winter season is particularly taxing on blood supplies. The organization attributes this to both inclement weather keeping people from getting out to donate, as well as seasonal illnesses preventing people from being eligible to donate.
To combat this dip in donations, the Red Cross is urging people to get out and donate to the organization that provides nearly 40 percent of the nation's blood.
To be eligible for donation, one must be at least 17 years of age or 16 years of age with a parent's consent, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in relatively good health.
Donors can contact the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment to donate or for more information about giving blood. Donors must present a blood donor card or driver's license or 2 other forms of identification to check in for their donation.
