Woodward, Okla. —
The Northwest Oklahoma Cattlemen's Foundation will be holding its 17th annual Cattlemen’s Ball fundraiser April 6 at the Woodward Conference Center.
"It's basically a fundraiser for a scholarship fund. All the money goes to first and second year agriculture students. We usually average 8 to 10 scholarships," said Hugh Lively, cattlemen's foundation vice president.
Cattlemen's Ball Co-Chair Jay Bogdahn said to date the organization has raised over $167,000 in scholarship money through the event to help support collegiate agriculture students.
Bogdahn said the doors to the main room open at 6 p.m., and the foyer of the conference center will open at 5:30 p.m. so guests will be free to enjoy cheese and wine as they browse the various items up for auction later in the evening.
At 6 p.m., things will get under way with a steak dinner followed by live and silent auctions, and feature a live country and western band to play music throughout the night.
Bogdahn said this year schedules have lined up so that the Cattlemen's Ball will feature the band Overdrive, a popular local group.
A number of items will be up for auction during the event, including a selection of western art, OU and OSU items, a lifetime membership to the Foundation, furniture, house decor, ladies jewelry, and quite a selection of guns.
"It will almost be like Christmas shopping for adults in April," Bogdahn said.
The event is expected to run late into the night with music and dancing.
"It kind of depends on what kind of a crowd we have," Lively said. "If we have an older crowd we might call it a night around midnight, if there's a younger crowd we might keep it going until 1 a.m."
Lively encouraged folks to come out and support both the agriculture industry as well as scholarships for the students.
"We think that people will find this to be a fun event that they will want to invite friends to share the evening with," Bogdahn added.
Tickets for the event are being sold by board members, as well as at Farm Credit, Western Equipment, McKay Ford, Quality Quick Lube, as well as at the conference center. They can also be purchased by calling 334-8852.
