Woodward, Okla. —
On Sunday, the Free Will Baptist Church in Woodward will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Dr. Allen L. Mabra, senior pastor, said the church began as a mission the first Sunday in May of 1988 and became a self-supporting church with 132 charter members in 1992. Mabra was named pastor.
The church has offered services to any and all since then and now offers Hispanic services as well with Pastor Gamaliel Botello. Other staff members include Youth Pastor Josh Lee, Associate Pastor Jordan Wilson, Children's Pastor C. J. Sober and administrative assistant Alicia Sober.
Mabra said services include traditional and contemporary worship, plus children's church on Sunday mornings, Sunday School, Bible study for all ages, youth group and children's ministry on Wednesday evenings and women's ministry. The church also houses Soul Menders Christian Counseling.
"On Sunday, May 5 at 9:30 there will be a time of praise and thanksgiving to God for the work He has performed through the ministry," Mabra said. "We will be honoring the founding members, the charter members, those who have come since that time, deceased members, current and former staff."
Worship service is at 10:45 a.m. with Mike Wade, Oklahoma Free Will Baptist state executive director, as the featured speaker.
Also on hand for the celebration will be representatives of the state executive office, state mission's office and the (local) Union Association of Free Will Baptists.
"We invite everyone to join us, especially anyone who has at any time been a part of this church the past 25 years," Mabra said.
