One person killed in 2-vehicle accident

Woodward News

Woodward, Okla. — An area man was killed in a 2-vehicle accident just west of Woodward on Friday night.

Chandler Craig Farmer, 23, of Buffalo, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by EMS personnel, said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

According to the OHP report, Kenneth Roy Crowe, 19, of Woodward was going west on State Highway 15 in his pickup and Farmer was headed east in a semi-truck.

Crowe was pulling a 16-foot trailer with an oilfield pump and had a tire blow out on the trailer, the OHP report said. The vehicle then crossed the center line and the trailer and load collided with Farmer's semi with the trailer separating from the pickup.

The OHP said the semi and the trailer portion of the pickup both caught fire after impact.

Crowe was not injured.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. and was 2.8 miles west of Woodward. Highway 15 was closed for almost 5 hours, the OHP said, reopening around 1:30 a.m.

Fire department personnel from Woodward and surrounding departments responded to put out the fire.

There was a brief evacuation notice set out by emergency officials for people living within a mile of the area near NS 196 and Highway 15 due to the potential of hazardous materials. But a few minutes later, officials said the fire situation was contained and it was safe to return home "if you have or were in the process of evacuating."

OHP trooper Phillip Ludwyck investigated the accident with assistance from other troopers.

Also on scene were the Woodward County Sheriff's Office, Woodward Police Department, Woodward fire and EMS, Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Fort Supply and Fargo fire departments.
