Woodward, Okla. —
The Fort Supply Historic Site will be hosting a meeting of the Saltfork Crafters Association Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Historic Fort Supply site manager Bob Rea said blacksmiths with the organization come out and demonstrate their trade, showing the public how items were crafted back in the pioneer days.
"We had 4 or 5 blacksmiths last year," Rea said. "They fired up the forge and made objects out of scrap iron metal and things like that. People stand around watching and they explain the process. Some of them even put their handiwork up for sale afterward."
Rea said the craftsmen forge a variety of metal objects, everything from utensils to fire place tools.
"This will be our second annual event," Rea said. "Last year was a good event, the public came out to see it. Several employees with the historical site are also members of this organization, so we decided to hold it again this year."
The event is free. For additional information contact 256-5357 or 256-6136.
