Woodward, Okla. — Woodward's recovery efforts in the aftermath of the April 15, 2012 tornado caught the attention of the entire state.

Everyone chipped in during the weeks after the tornado, which left 6 people dead, over 200 homes and businesses destroyed or damaged and caused a minimum of $13.1 million in property damage.

The efforts of everyone associated with the recovery effort will be recognized on Monday (April 22) as the City of Woodward hosts Tornado Recovery Tribute: Recognizing a Community of Heroes.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodward Conference Center and will include recognitions, proclamations and remarks from several dignitaries, including Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb and State Sen. Bryce Marlatt of Woodward.

"This tribute is simply the City celebrating the fact that Woodward is a genuine and caring community and to say 'Thank You' to everyone involved no matter how they contributed," said Alan Riffel, Woodward's city manager.

The evening will also include a  video/power point presentation on the tornado, recovery effort and the way the community rallied through a traumatic event.

"The selfless generosity of so many that dreadful night, the weeks that followed and the entire last year has been incredible," Riffel said. "The way this community rallied together has been inspirational. We are all blessed to live here."

The event is free and open to anyone who would like to attend.
