After a public hearing on a zoning request from property owner James A. Slattery for a nearly 20 acre parcel of land southeast of Woodward he intends to use for industrial purposes, the rezoning was approved.
The approval was first on a list of 13 items Monday morning, which Woodward County Commissioners tackled at their weekly meeting.
"We held the hearing and there were no objections," said District One Commissioner, Tommy Roedell. "So we approved it."
At present, the property is zoned A-1, which is deemed appropriate for general agricultural use. The new zoning will deem it I-2 for general industrial use.
The area has seen some industrialization recently and the owner wants to make it available for industrial use for possible buyers, said District Three Commissioner Vernie Matt.
Commissioners approved the county estimate of needs for June, which amounted to $96,812.78 per district.
The need and subsequent request for Northwestern Electrical Cooperative to cross State Highway 270 with an overhead electrical line north of Woodward was approved and a permit will be issued.
The commissioners also approved the destruction or disposal of some old broken equipment - a laptop and one desk top computer-which was assigned to the election board.
All equipment or inventory valued at more than $500 must be accounted for before disposal, according to Charolett Waggoner, Woodward County Clerk.
Two more items, old metal desks, were transferred to the Office of Juvenile Affairs in the Janitor's Department for their use.
In new or unforeseen business, a member of the public inquired about the status of the ongoing matter of clarification between the City of Woodward and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the ownership and use of land located in the Air Port Industrial Park, to include the Juvenile Detention Center there.
The issues are still actively being addressed between the City of Woodward and the Federal Aviation Administration, said Woodward City manager Alan Riffel.
