Woodward County Commissioners approved a pair of zoning changes on industrial properties south of Woodward at their meeting Monday.
Zoning changes will be made effective on an 18 acre tract of land belonging to John Slattery, which is being rezoned from agricultural to general industrial. Another tract of land owned by Fisher-Baker Limited Partnership, which is comprised of a six lots in the Northwest Passage Industrial Park area, were approved to change from general commercial to general industrial.
After approving all blanket purchase orders and monthly reports for county officers, commissioners approved the renewal of Woodward County in ALFA (Association for Land Fill Financial Assurance).
ALFA is an association that helps cover the significant expenses related to closing a landfill, which could cost up to $1 million, said District 1 County Commissioner Tommy Roedell.
Closing a landfill involves more than just covering the site with dirt. It requires very specific engineering requirements as well as monitoring wells to test and monitor possible leakage and water quality as well as air quality in the area, Roedell said.
ALFA is a cooperative association that allows members to pay a yearly membership due that spreads the cost for all counties in a certain region. In this area, Woodward, Harper, Ellis, Dewey counties together make up the Northwest Oklahoma Solid Waste Authority which file together under ALFA, Roedell said.
Since it is highly unlikely that all of these landfills would be closed at the same time, the cost is much better absorbed by several member counties than one, Roedell said.
In other business, commissioners approved the financial statement for the Resale Property Fund. This fund is an account where fines associated with a property owners late or delinquent tax payment would be held
