Woodward, Okla. — The 39th annual Oklahoma Conference on Aging is seeking entries for its 2014 senior poetry contest.

This contest is held in conjunction with the annual conference that will take place at the Embassy Suites Norman Hotel and Conference Center May 20-22.  The contest is held to seek out the poetry talents of Oklahoma’s seniors ages 60 and over.  In the past, organizers said, there have been entries from across Northwest Oklahoma stretching from as far as the tip of the panhandle.

Awards given to the top three places in both the men’s and women’s categories.  Along with receiving a plaque, the winners’ poems will be published in the annual poetry contest book.

The deadline to submit a poem is Jan. 31. The poems may be written about any topic the writer chooses.

According to information provided by the Area Agency on Aging, entrants must be current residents of Oklahoma. Only one entry per person may be submitted, and the work can not have been previously published.  The cover sheet should include the contestant’s first and last name, the category they will be participating in (men’s or women’s), phone number and age of contestant at the time the poem was written.  All entries should be typed but handwritten entries will be accepted as long as the entry is legible.

By submitting an entry, contestants agree to the publication of their poem in the annual contest poetry book that will be available at no cost at the annual conference.  Winning submissions may also be published on the conference website.

The winners will be notified by April 1, and will be invited to attend Senior Day and the awards luncheon on May 20.

Entries may be submitted by email or mail to:
