Woodward, Okla. — A couple of area communities are offering some kid-friendly activities to celebrate the upcoming Halloween holiday.

In Seiling, a school carnival will be held from 6:30 p.m to 9 p.m. on Oct. 27 in the gym.

Then at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, kids will go trick-or-treating at the downtown businesses.

Seiling city spokeswoman Shara Fuerborn said the downtown activity is especially tailored to children who aren't yet old enough to be in school.

"Police and other city employees will direct traffic while the kids are making their rounds to help keep them safe," she said.

For older children, Fuerborn said city officials have asked that parents confine their neighborhood trick-or-treating to between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Halloween night.

By doing so, officials hope it will be safer for children to be done before nightfall and will discourage vandalism that sometimes occurs after it becomes totally dark.

The Vici Chamber of Commerce will also be hosting activities on Oct. 31 for youngsters in the Vici area.

Starting at 5:45 p.m., children can line up at Vici's City Hall for a costume contest.  Judging starts at 6 p.m. with cash prizes offered to the best costumes, according to Jennifer McCormick, assistant manager of the Vici Chamber.

Then a dance for students in 5th through 12th grades will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with drawings for cash prizes during the event, McCormick said.

There is no fee to participate in either the costume contest or dance, she said.
