Woodward, Okla. —
Mooreland has so much planned to celebrate Independence Day that the town is getting started early.
The town held it's Little Miss Firecracker pageant for girls ages 5 to 12 on Saturday. The winners were Tristyn Burgess who won the Tiny Miss title, Abigail Winn who earned the Little Miss crown, and Jolee Guthrie-Denton who was crowned Junior Miss Firecracker.
Then on Wednesday, July 3, the town will kick off it's 2-day Co-ed Softball Tournament at the baseball field in Mooreland.
However, there will still be plenty to do on the 4th itself, with a wide variety of events to be held at Mooreland City Park.
The day will start with registration for the horseshoe tournament at 8 a.m. The horseshoes will then start flying as games begin at 9 a.m.
If horseshoes isn't your game, a family volleyball contest will begin at 10 a.m., with teams to be chosen through a drawing.
For youngsters, the kids races will start at 9 a.m. These will include stick horse, push toy, tricycle, and bicycle races. The games will be open to children through 6th grade.
Following these games, the kiddos can go on a treasure hunt as part of a money digging game that will begin at 9:45 a.m.
Then the turtle races will be held at 10:30 a.m. Only land terrapins will be allowed to participate.
There will also be live entertainment on the morning of the 4th, including the musical stylings of Daren Miller and David Cronister who will perform starting around 10:30 a.m.
The winners of the Little Miss Firecracker pageant will also be making appearances at the park and performing their talents for the community at around 11 a.m.
In addition, Chainsaw Artist Tom Zimmer will be showing off his carving skills throughout the day, with performances tentatively scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. or 2 p.m. if necessary.
A free barbecue lunch, prepared by the Mooreland firefighters, will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The fun and games will continue after lunch with swim races and a coin dive at the pool starting at 12:45 p.m. A free swim period will then be held following the swimming games.
In addition, teams will be wrapping up the 2nd day of the Co-ed Softball Tournament, and there will also be a Family Fun Softball game held at approximately 6:30 p.m.
Of course, the day wouldn't be complete without a fireworks display, which will be held at the Mooreland football field after dark.
