Woodward, Okla. —
The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) continues its recognition of Bedlam Football Series with 3 local blood drives over the next couple of weeks
Saturday, Oct. 20, from noon to 5 p.m., OBI will be collecting blood at Crystal Beach Park during the Fall-A-Days.
OBI will also be standing by to take blood donations between 8:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at High Plains Technology Center.
The blood blitz continues with a stop at Woodward High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24.
At the collections, donors will have their choice of a 2012 OU or OSU Bedlam Game T-shirt, which says the wearer bleeds the schools' colors, said OBI Community Relations Director Leslie Gamble.
She said blood donors may pass on the T-shirt, and a contribution for its value will go to the Children's Hospital Foundation.
OBI is anticipating making an approximate $36,000 donation to Children's Hospitals thanks to the thousands of Oklahoma blood donors who have forgone a T-shirt in this year's Bedlam campaign, she said.
"Through September 30, there were 1,847 Northwest Oklahoma donors who passed on a T-shirt and 17,623 statewide," she said, noting Enid and Stillwater areas are included in the OBI's northwest zone.
Overall blood donors, since the campaign began Sept. 1, totaled 2,966 in Northwest Oklahoma and 27,991 statewide. Even more are expected as the campaign continues through the end of the month.
"The response has been terrific, as it usually is when state fans 'get serious' about the Bedlam rivalry," Gamble said.
MOST AT LEAST 16 MAY GIVE
For the upcoming local drives, Gamble said no appointment is needed to give blood. However, she said if donors can call the OBI at least a day in advance, it can speed up the donation process.
Gamble said almost anyone age 16 or older may give blood every 56 days.
