Laverne holding Turkey Trot

Woodward, Okla. — There may be six reasons, there might be 10. There could even be 16 reasons why you should participate in this year's Turkey Trot Friday.

But event organizer   Lana Shaffer doesn't care why you come out to support the town of Laverne's second annual Turkey Trot, she just wants to see you there.

For the second year in a row, Harper County Turning Point together with the Laverne Recreational Trail Committee offer the Annual Turkey Trot 5K and 1 mile fun run.

Funds from the event will be used to beautify the Laverne Recreational Trail, Shaffer said.

"We completed the loop from the park, around Parkview Pointe and then south to the old ball field," she said.

Specifically the race benefits those turkey stuffed souls, those cranberry weary hearts, those who feel trodden upon by mashed potatoes. The activity helps to rev up the metabolism and start the holiday season right, Shaffer said.

"We want people to come out for two reasons, to help benefit the trail and to help them get out and do something active," she said.

Registration for the event begins Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Laverne City Park. The race begins at 10:30. Children under 12 are free. T-shirts will be available for the first 60 race participants  12-years-old and over, Shaffer said. Entry fees can be paid at registration. Ribbons will go to the 1st and 2nd place winners in each age category.

Bottled water will be provided for race participants.
