Oil and Gas Convention returns in August

Woodward, Okla. — Four years ago, when Junior Long was driving home from an oil and gas convention in Oklahoma City, he never dreamed that his idea, which flashed into his mind somewhere between Oklahoma City and home, would ever come to fruition.

His vision was for Woodward, an oil and gas hub, to have its own convention. But he knew it was going to be a huge endeavor.

"I have heard the quote and I use it all the time," Long said. "If you want to do something great surround yourself with great people."

That is exactly what Long did.

It took more than three years, but he put together an executive committee that boasts some of the most enthusiastic movers and shakers in the Woodward area. Almost immediately the group began marching toward the dream of an Oil and Gas Convention in Woodward that would define the industry as well as the region, he said.

All that work culminated last year into the First Tri-State Oil and Gas Convention held at the newly opened Woodward Conference Center.

"Last year we sold out the booth spaces two weeks before the show," Long said. "That kind of told us what we could expect in the future. It was so well received."

Indeed, the event drew more than 250 to the Bobby Joe Cudd Legacy Award Dinner where the organizers honored their first four recipients of the Bobby Joe Cudd Legacy Award, Long said.

That doesn't even include the 55 booth spaces that sold out as well as the more than 525 people who attended the program.

This year, Tri-State organizers just want just one thing. They want it to be better, Long said.

"We learned a lot at last year's show and we are looking forward to this year's because we are so excited about the Headliner Panel," he said. "We could not do this without the support of everyone here. This is not a 'me' story it is an everyone story."

The show is slated to begin Aug. 6 and will run through Aug. 9 at Woodward Conference Center. The event schedule is as follows:
