Races develop for school board seats

Johnny McMahan

Three races have developed for school board seats in Woodward County.

At the close of the filing period on Wednesday, two people had filed for a board seat in the Woodward, Mooreland and Sharon-Mutual districts.

There is not a race in Fort Supply this year.

In Woodward, Office No. 4 incumbent Doris Ames is going for a second term and will be opposed by Trudy Hoffman. Roxy Merklin, who was appointed earlier this year to fill the Office No. 1 spot that opened when Terry Nelson moved, filed unopposed for election to that position.

Mooreland’s Office No. 4 race will have Wendell Brandenburg and Tom Kahn running. The incumbent did not seek another term.

‘In Sharon-Mutual, Darren Cottom, the incumbent, is being opposed by Daisy Adams.

Jeremiah Campbell was the only person to file for Office No. 4 in Fort Supply.

An unexpired term in Office No. 3 in Fort Supply remained unfilled.

Carol Bradley filed unopposed for another term representing Zone 2 on the High Plains Technology Center Board.

A smattering of races also developed in area school districts.

In Ellis County, Mark Bay and Lorinda Swenn filed for Office No. 4 in Shattuck. In Gage, Leon Woods will be opposed by Crystal Sprague.

Warren O. Givens filed unopposed in Arnett as did John Rakestraw in Fargo. Givens is an incumbent.

There is one race in Harper County. Terry Shuman and Julie Dome are both running for Office No. 4 in Laverne. Incumbent Doug Weder is unopposed for another term in Buffalo.

In Dewey County, Monte Wion filed unopposed for another term on Seiling’s board and Justin Morris didn’t draw an opponent so he will serve another term on the Vici board.

Taloga had three openings. Ruth Ann Barron and Gussie Mae Drain were appointed earlier to fill unexpired terms in Offices No. 2 and 3, and both filed to retain those offices. They did not draw an opponent.

Nobody filed for Office No. 4.

In Beaver County, Lance Sutton filed for the Office No. 4 position in Beaver and Mike Pugh filed to fill the unexpired term in Office No. 2.

Balko also had two openings. Craig Frantz filed in Office No. 4 and Aaron Stockton filed to fill the unexpired term in Office No. 1.

Turpin does have an election between Laura Lawder Estes and Tara King Kirkhart.

In Forgan, incumbent Gregory McReynolds filed unopposed.

In Major County, Roger Fast filed for another term on the Fairview board.

Two people filed for an unexpired term in Aline-Cleo as Sandra Wallace and Trent Delano will be on the ballot. Juanita Beckwith was unopposed for Office No. 4.

Bryan N. Hobson was the only person to file in Cimarron, but in Ringwood, Dale Hamm and Tim Sodowsky filed so there will be an election in that school district.

Waynoka will have an election between Clint Olson and Sonya Ball Darr. In Freedom, Jan Eden filed for another term as did Mark Rathgeber in Alva.

E. L. Edingfield filed for a term on the Northwest Technology Center Board.

The school elections are Feb. 10.
