Almost time for Jingle Bell Run

Jenah Kastelic

Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces and grab a Santa hat for this year's Jingle Bell Run.

Runners will spread Christmas joy as they jingle through the streets of Woodward on Friday, Dec. 4.

Tracy Evans, organizer of the run, said runners are invited to meet at her house located at 1711 Elm Street at 6:30 p.m. The scenic run will cover about six miles.

Evans said, “this year we are going to run down Oklahoma Avenue to First Street and then through Crystal Christmas and back.”

People of all ages may participate in the run. The festive group stays together and only runs as fast as the slowest person, however Evans said that people who can not run that far are encouraged to meet up with the group about half way. “They can join us anywhere, but First Street is usually a good spot for those who want to run a shorter distance,” Evans said.

She and her friends started doing the Jingle Bell Run about four years ago, and have continued it every year since.

“We thought a night run would be fun so we could look at all the Christmas lights,” she said.

The runners hope to spread joy and make the holiday season brighter. Evans said, “people that see us always honk and yell...; we wave back and say Merry Christmas.”

About twenty people usually participate, and this year they are hoping for more. Evans said, “the more the better because we like the bells to be loud.”

Runners are reminded to dress warm. After the run, Evans said participants will gather back at her house for hot cocoa, cider and snacks.

No registration is required, people are encouraged to just show up.
