Girl Scouts need cookie cupboard

Most everyone has their favorite Girl Scout cookie, but who buys them just for the taste?

The real reason people buy the cookies is to support the Girl Scouts.

Troops in the Woodward area are asking the community for help to house their “cookie cupboard” for a few months, said Stacy Harper, who is the Product Manager for Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma.

“Last year our cookie cupboard was in Buffalo in the Alumni Association building which was destroyed in the snow storm last March,” Harper said. “We are looking in Woodward first as it is more centrally located for all the troop leaders to have access to.”

However, Harper said if a space cannot be found in Woodward that other areas are an option.

Harper said her service unit area covers Girls Scouts from Woodward, Shattuck, Mooreland, Seiling, Buffalo, Laverne, Gage, Vici and any place in between.

Harper said they hope to find someone who would allow them to utilize a storage room, empty building, empty store room, etc. The space is needed to store cookies January through March.

Selling cookies is an important part of today’s Girl Scout program. As the organization's website www.girlscouts.org says: "The activity of selling cookies is directly related to our purpose of helping all girls realize their full potential and become strong, confident, and resourceful citizens. By selling cookies, Girl Scouts practice life skills like goal setting, money management and teamwork."
