Experiences help find purpose in life

Michelle Seeber

Finding your purpose in life can be like finding a Lamborghini in a Wal-Mart world.

That was the focus of a presentation by Susanne Blake, an orator who spoke at the anniversary banquet of Healthy Woman, a program on women’s issues sponsored by Woodward Regional Hospital.

The banquet was held Thursday evening at the First Christian Church for approximately 250 guests.

Blake, who has a master’s degree in business administration and has been widowed, divorced and remarried, shared experiences that helped her find her own purpose in life.

The Pauls Valley native told how she didn’t start looking for her purpose in life until her first husband was dying of cancer. Blake was 39 years old, she said.

She had teenage children at home and didn’t know how she was going to manage without her husband.

Blake said two years later, she walked into a disastrous marriage with a lot of inner pain.

“I had to undo some beliefs in myself to leave (that) marriage,” she said.

At that point, she began to study her purpose in life, not just question it. She read self-help books and asked God to show her what that purpose was, she said.

Through years of lessons learned by experience, she found her purpose in life, which is to bring light and a higher consciousness to people she comes in contact with.

“You don’t need to worry about your purpose right now,” she said. “You are living your purpose right now.”

“Sometimes we think we make poor choices, but if you learn from them, you can turn it into a positive,” Blake said.

Blake gave many helpful ideas on finding that purpose in life, such as finding quotes that inspire and/or comfort you and placing them in prominent places where you will read them every day.

Her presentation was preceded by musical solos by Woodward High School seniors Bobbi Castor and Sarah Davis.

Sponsors of the event and Healthy Woman included Dr. Helen Chiou, Dr. Fong Chen, the Oklahoma Beef Council, Peak Fitness, Day Spa and Northwest Crane.
