Main Street sets trick or treat day

Michelle Seeber

“Trick or treat.”

That’s what shoppers will hear Saturday afternoon along Main Street as dozens of costumed children go store to store for candy.

The event, which will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., is sponsored by Woodward Main Street and is a Woodward tradition.

Most of the children will trick or treat at shops in the 800 and 900 blocks of Main Street, said Kathryn Upchurch, Woodward Main Street director.

“Cowboy Tack Shop and (stores) along 7th Street (will) participate too,” she said.

Children will know which stores to visit for treats, because orange signs will be placed in the windows, she said.

Main Street has sponsored the event for many years.

“We’ve been doing it since before I became director six years ago,” Upchurch said, noting “we do this to bring people downtown and to do something for the community.”

On average, 150 to 200 children have participated in the annual Halloween event, she said.

The event is fun for the whole family, she said, noting that sometimes some adults accompanying the children will also dress up.

In addition to handing out candy, some participating businesses may have other activities.

For more information about the event, call Woodward Main Street at (580) 254-8521.
