Schools to host fall carnivals

Jenah Kastelic

The season of fall is here and various schools in the area are celebrating with an array of festivals and carnivals.

Sharon-Mutual, Buffalo and Seiling schools all invite the community to share in the fun.

Sharon-Mutual Elementary School will hold a “Family Spooktacular Night” on Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A chili supper will be held for donations as well as a used book fair.

“Teachers will be dressed up in Halloween costumes and the kids will come through the school in their costumes and trick-or-treat through the school” said elementary principal Dustie Shryock.

The First Baptist Church in Sharon will also be hosting a “Trunk-or-Treat” in the school parking lot at the same time Thursday.

Shryock said the school is the hub of the community.

“We want to involve families and create a positive connection between our school and the community and allow children to view the school as an educational site but also as a place of enjoyment,” Shryock said.

Also on Thursday, Buffalo School will hold a book fair and carnival from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“We will have hot dogs, cotton candy and lots of games,” said school secretary Nancy Hughes.

She said the money raised from the book fair will be used to purchase new books for the library.

Seiling School will hold its community Halloween carnival on Halloween from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“The day will be a fun and entertaining day for all the children and give them a safe way to celebrate the holiday,” said community education director Cheryl Davidson.

As part of the fun, a costume contest will be held and prizes will be awarded.

“It’s open to any community that wants to come to a very family oriented small town get together,” Davidson said.
