Wing Festival set in Buffalo

Rachael Van Horn

They have wings but they aren’t supposed to. If the cook makes em hot enough, they may even fly.

But what most folk want to do at the Fifth Annual Buffalo Wing Cook-Off and BBQ Competition is cook and those who wish to take a stab at winning the contest should start planning their recipes now.

The event is slated for Saturday, September 6 beginning with the meat inspection at 7 a.m.

Cooks who want to enter should plan to bring meat to the county fairgrounds for inspection on time and it should be raw.

“However, if it is something they want to marinate, it can be marinating during inspection,” organizers said in a recent press release.

Buffalo wings are required to be cooked in the open.

Ribs must be cooked with charcoal or wood only and they must be baby-back ribs or spare ribs.

All this cookin’ might sound like hard work, but according to the press release, there are some pretty good incentives this year to be the winning recipe.

First place in the Buffalo Wings competition is $250 as is first place for the Barbecue ribs competition.

Second place either category will win $150 and third place wins $100.

For more information contact Mike Barton at 580-727-5296 or Cody Hickman at 580-727-5009. The event is sponsored by the Buffalo Theatre and Community Centre.
