Enrollment starts at Northwestern

Daniel Fedora

Classes begin Aug. 18 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and the NWOSU-Woodward office began regular business hours Monday to accommodate student enrollment.

According to a press release, all first-time and transfer students must be admitted to the university before enrolling. They must then obtain a class schedule and an enrollment form which must be completed with and signed by an adviser prior to before the enrollment process can be completed.

The Woodward campus office has not yet moved into the new building on 34th Street, NWOSU-Woodward Dean Deena Fisher said.

“Right now, they just come up here on the second floor of First American Bank and Linda, Joy or I are happy to enroll them,” Fisher said.

The office at 2220 Oklahoma Ave. on the second floor of the First American Bank building is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Fisher said the Woodward office will soon move to its new location, and students will then be able to enroll at the new campus.

“We’ll be in there shortly,” Fisher said, “hopefully by next week.”

In order to enroll, Fisher said students need to bring transcripts and test scores.

“I need a high school transcript,” Fisher said. “If they’ve taken any college classes, they need to bring an official transcript.

“We do require an ACT score,” she said, “and we do give the residual ACTs if they do not have a score on record.”

Other than those things, Fisher said enrollees need only bring “their willingness and desire to learn.”

Fisher said NWOSU-Woodward’s student body has grown since last year.

“Enrollment numbers are up right now,” Fisher said, adding that while many enrollees are returning students, “we do have several first-time freshman from Woodward and the surrounding areas and we’re really thrilled about the fact that they chose Northwestern.”

Graduate students already admitted to the university may enroll in person or online according to a press release, but those enrolling in graduate courses at NWOSU for the first time must enroll in person.

For those students who enroll in classes for fall 2008, payment for tuition and fees is due Aug. 18, the first day of classes.

Freshman orientation activities are scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Herod Hall Auditorium on NWOSU’s Alva campus. All incoming freshman are required to attend.

Students with questions pertaining to enrollment can call NWOSU’s Woodward office at 256-0047 for more information.
