Busy summer set for 4-H

Bridget Bese Nash

Woodward’s 4-H Club has planned a busy summer schedule for all of the Woodward 4-Hers.

“We have a lot of workshops planned,” said OSU Extension Office Summer Intern Jill Sharp.

Aside from workshops there are also camps and, of course, due dates for projects and official forms.

Due by July 3 are 4-H Outstanding Club point sheets, Woodward County Record Books, Camp Registration, camp counselor workshop ideas and County Officer Intent Forms for those at least 13 years of age and members of a senior club who have turned in a record book.

The Tri-County 4-H Camp will be July 14 through July 16 at the Vici Camp Grounds. The cost of the camp is $55 with special discounts to those who have turned in a record book and participated in a certain amount of 4-H activities. Those attending camp are asked to bring recyclable aluminum cans to camp.

Workshops this summer are free of charge but those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item which will be donated to a local food pantry.

4-H members who plan to attend the workshops must sign up in advance so those in charge of supplies will know how many supplies will be needed.

A garden themed workshop will be held June 4 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. and garden crafts will be made.

June 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. is the Beef Cooking School workshop. Those attending will learn to prepare several dishes using beef and how to recognize different cuts of beef.

An apron making workshop will be held June 16 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring 1 and 1/18 yards of a fabric of their choice to the workshop.

A baby-sitting workshop will be held June 18 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. At this workshop 4-H members will learn games to play, snacks to prepare and general baby-sitting information.

A Pork Cooking School will be held June 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Attendants will learn several pork dishes and how to identify cuts of meat.

June 26 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. there will be a “pillowcase dress” workshop where pillowcases will be converted into dresses for little girls. The dresses will be donated to a local crisis center.

Patriotic crafts will be made at the workshop held July 2 from 9 a.m. until noon.

A “girls only” workshop will be held July 9 at 10 a.m. There will be crafts, snacks along with positive self image ideas.

4-H members will have the opportunity to watch live bats at the Selman Ranch the evening of July 10. This particular group trip will cost $5 per person.

A “boys only “ workshop will be held July 21 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Boys attending this workshop will make fair entries and learn about duct tape and its many functions. Snacks will also be provided.

Record book workshops will be held June 13 and June 27 by appointment.

For further information on any 4-H activities call the OSU Extension Office at (580) 254-3391.
