Board interviews candidates for superintendent

The Woodward Public School Board of Education conducted two interviews for the position of school superintendent Friday evening during the executive session of a special board meeting. Three interviews were conducted Thursday evening.

No decisions were made.

Also discussed at the meeting was the hiring of a construction manager for the district to oversee the upcoming projects in the school district which include a new early childhood development center.

“I would recommend that we not take any action tonight,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeff Mills.

Mills presented the board member with a printout of facts about the four construction companies that bid on the projects, Kline Mechanical, Timberlake, Joe Hall and Kerr.

“Mainly what I wanted to do tonight is present that to you as something to consider,” said Mills.

Board member Marlin Trissel expressed concern over the decision because due to the fact the school will be changing superintendents. Trissel said he was comfortable with hiring a construction manager with Mills as superintendent because of his experience in that area but the next superintendent may be better suited dealing with a general contractor.

“I just bring that up simply for the reason that we consider every angle,” said Trissel.

Mills said another option is hiring a construction manager for the early childhood development center and hiring a general contractor for the other projects or vice versa.

“I think it’s important and I want the public to know that we are going to do what we said we’re going to do,” said Mills.

“That is the bottom line,” said Harrison.

The board decided to table the decision until more research was done on the options.
