Come on out, the lakes are open

Jump in-the water’s fine.

Having recovered from last year’s flooding, area lakes are “open for business,” according to Kathy Carlson, lake manager for Canton Lake and Fort Supply Lake.

“We’re totally up and running,” Carlson said.

While there was significant damage at both lakes, she said “we’ve got all necessary repairs made.”

The only damage that hasn’t been repaired from last year’s flooding is some shoreline damage at both lakes, Carlson said, noting that additional funds must be acquired before the shores can be fixed.

“But it will not affect anyone’s visit,” she said.

All the picnic areas, bathrooms and boat ramps and almost all the campsites are fully operational at both lakes, Carlson said, noting that just a couple of the campsites at Canton Lake are out of commission right now because of electrical problems.

The water levels at each lake are around normal, she said, which means that lake goers don’t have to be concerned about high water or low water hazards, although they should still use caution while enjoying the lake.

All in all, Carlson said, “we’re really looking forward to a good recreation season.”

“We’re anticipating really good visitation,” she said, noting that most of the campsites are booked up for the next few weekends.

And things should get off to a good start with the Canton Walleye Rodeo set for May 15 through May 18, she said, noting that the next weekend is Memorial Day, which is always a busy lake weekend.
