Sharon-Mutual classes to hold annual carnival

Rowynn Ricks

The junior and senior classes at Sharon-Mutual High School invite you to “come celebrate the end of the school year” at their annual carnival this Thursday.

“It’s fun and it’s tradition,” senior class sponsor Vicki Griffith said, noting that students at Sharon-Mutual have been putting on the carnival for “forever.”

The carnival is a fundraiser the juniors and seniors host each year to help them raise money for their class trips, explained Marna White, junior class sponsor. She noted that this year the seniors will be going to Florida.

The trips are “parent sponsored only now,” White said, which is why the students are holding the fundraiser to help with the costs.

The carnival, which includes everything from bingo to a cakewalk to inflatable games, begins at 6 p.m., White said. Most of the events only take one ticket to participate in, she said, noting that the carnival tickets will be available at 25 cents each.

In addition to giving out a wide variety of prizes through the bingo games, White said the kids will also be raffling off a 26-inch flat screen television. The television is valued at $700, she said, noting that raffle chances only cost $5 each or $20 for four chances and will be available for purchase the night of the carnival.

Before the carnival, the Sharon-Mutual senior class will be hosting another fundraiser, Griffith said, explaining that there will be a pot luck meal beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The entire meal will be home-cooked, with each of the seniors bringing a different type of meat or casserole dish, she said. There will also be some vegetables, salad, bread and desert available, she said, noting that the desert will be ice cream sundaes.

“It’ll be good and there’ll be plenty,” Griffith said.

The price for the meal is “by donation,” she said, noting that a recommended donation would be $6 for adults.

Both the meal and the carnival will be held in Sharon at the school gym.
