Center to raise funds with flowers

Looking for memorial flower arrangements?
The Shattuck Senior Center is offering “beautiful flowers at good prices,” said Harriet Ray, center coordinator.
The center is selling memorial flowers as part of a special fundraiser to help raise money for improvements at the center, Ray said.
“We get grants to pay for our meals and utilities,” she said. “But it’s never enough.”
Which is why the center holds at least two fundraisers each year: a pool tournament in the spring and a car show in the fall.
“We’re interested in buying new chairs,” she said, noting that the center also needs some new kitchen equipment.
So for the first time ever, the center has decided to sell memorial flowers as a special fundraiser, Ray said.
The center will be selling loose flowers as well as flower sprays, she said.
“It’s by donation only,” Ray said of the cost.
However, she noted that there are some minimum donations suggested for certain arrangements.
“We will also have baked goods and donated craft items for sale,” she said. The Shattuck Senior Center, which is located at 520 S. Main St. in Shattuck, will be holding its flower sale on April 4 and April 5, Ray said. The sale will begin at 10 a.m. both days, she said, but will end at 6 p.m. on April 4 and end at 4 p.m. on April 5.
The center is then scheduled to hold its Spring 8-ball Pool Tournament April 7-11, Ray said.
There is still time for teams to sign up to participate in the tournament, she said, noting that there is a $10 entry fee.
There will be prizes awarded to the first and second place winners in the tournament, she said.
Those interested in participating can contact Bob Fiel at the senior center by calling (580) 938-2025. If the center is closed, Ray said callers can leave a message for Fiel, who will then return their call.
In other events, the Shattuck Senior Center will be hosting a Vintage Hat Show on April 23 beginning at 1 p.m.
