A few booths still available for flea market

Rowynn Ricks

There are just a few spots left for those wishing to participate in the Children Arena of Services’ annual flea market set for Feb. 7.

“I have 14 booths already,” said Christi Waggoner with Children’s Arena of Services.

In addition to several local individuals and organizations that have already reserved their spots, Waggoner said there have been people from as far away as Ponca City and Shamrock, Texas, to reserve booths.

For individuals, “it’s a great way to get a jump on spring cleaning,” Waggoner said, noting that she’s already begun cleaning out her closets in preparation for the event.

The flea market also provides a great opportunity “If you’re with an organization or group that needs a quick fundraiser,” she said.

Waggoner said the flea market also provides some great opportunities for some shoppers.

“There’ll be a bargain for just about anybody out there,” she said.

For example, she said some booths are offering furniture and appliances that might be the perfect deal for someone who’s just moved into town or for a student who is college-bound this fall.

“You’ll want to come look around because we’ll have lots of good stuff,” Waggoner said, noting that other items on offer at this year’s market include antiques, baby clothes, collectibles, home decor, jewelry, toys and more.

“It will be like a typical flea market, just about anything can be sold,” she said, noting that crafters are also welcome to sell their wares at the market.

Booth rental fees are $15 for an 8’x10’ space and $25 for an 8’x20’ space, Waggoner said, noting that tables and chairs are included as part of the rental.

When paying these fees, she said that individuals and organizations should know that all the proceeds “go back into the community.”

“We use it for the Rally Round the Children, Make and Take Craft Fair and Baby Safety Shower,” Waggoner said.

In fact, because of funds raised at the flea market, the Children’s Arena of Services has seen able to offer these other events to the community for free.

Waggoner described the flea market as a “win-win-win” situation, because not only does the Children’s Arena of Services get the funding it needs to continue its programming, but those who rent the booths get a little extra pocket money and afterward the OARC benefits by selling off items that may be left over from the market.

For more information about the flea market or how you can get involved, contact Waggoner at (580) 571-7138.

The market will be held at the Woodward County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 7.
