Board hears several reports

Bridget Bese

The Woodward Public Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting Monday.

The superintendent’s report included a report by Woodward police officer Curt Terry who is the Woodward Public School police officer

“We’re ahead of the game,” said Terry. “I think the program is working.”

The officer’s report included five drug offenses, two larceny reports and one felony arrest of a student with possession of stolen goods in the first semester.

According to Terry, the number of incidents on school property has gone down 10 percent since last year.

Terry did make a recommendation to the board requesting another officer at the schools.

The superintendent’s report also included the recognition of Woodward’s Teacher of the Year finalists Dana Farley, Jim Hunt, Cheryl Lucas, Mandy Rowley, Mary Servis and Jo Lynn Love.

“We’re just proud of our Teacher of the Year candidates,” said Superintendent Dr. Jeff Mills. “It says a lot about the community and the staff and what they put forward to recognize their teachers. It’s not like this everywhere.”

Also approved was the termination of employment of part time employee Jeremy Kulow effective Dec. 5, 2007.

Board members voted to go into executive session to discuss the resignations of Gene Endersby, Ron Reynolds, Susan Duvall, Lynn Hamm, transfers of Dena Riseley, Nine Ehnen, Tammy Bruehl and the employment of Monica Denney and Mark Quinn. They also did their yearly superintendent evaluation.

After an executive session lasting one hour and one minute the board approved the personnel recommendations and the continued employment of Mills.

Monday’s board meeting marked the last one for Randy Willis as a board member.

“As a fellow board member we’d like to sincerely thank you,” said board President Terry Nelson.

“It’s been a privilege for me to serve here in this school system,” said Willis. “Dr. Mills has been a wonderful addition to the school system.”
