Woodward, Okla. — By L. O. Spray, Jr.

The City of Woodward has found the ideal person to head up the Main Street Project or whatever the title is. It is Janet Fitz, a gal who will take the bull by the horns and wont' let go until the job is done. She's a "throw-back" to her family, who were that way.

Main Street isn't the only part of this town that needs some attention. There are abandoned buildings and junk cars, junky yards, weeds 5-feet tall, old appliances, well we all get the picture.

We've got to be careful not to take guest dignitaries down the wrong streets when we bring them to town. Coming into Woodward from the Northwest and from the Southeast is not bad at all. Nice, new businesses as you come over, "Spring Creek Hill," from the west is pretty impressive. Auto dealerships, new motels, etc ... from the southeast, not too shabby at all.

We'll have a new conference building here before long. That’ll mean a lot of new faces coming to town. I'd think we'd want them to leave with a good impression.

Why not expand the Main Street project to include the whole city, only with some help? It would be a major undertaking, because it has gone on way too long. Some areas have been a mess for a long time and it'll take a long time to clean it up. Janet Fitz is the one that can do it.

Take a ride around town and you'll see what I'm talking about. If you live in a neat, well manicured laws, nice shrubbery, etc. .. part of town, you need to know that it's not all like that.

It won't take long to see what I'm talking about. It's time to clean Woodward up.
